As a sort of 'mirror image' of the "What Would You Get Rid Of?" thread below, I thought I'd ask: What song will you never get sick of, no matter how often you hear it?

I start with the obvious: Scarlet Begonias. I've heard it countless times and in countless versions, and even as recently as last night....and whenever they finish the first solo and break into "The Wind In The WIllows Played Tea For Two" I get that ol' perma-grin...again. It is such an optimistic and charming number, about falling in love and strangers stopping strangers, just to shake their hand. How can it grow old? :)

Tough. Can I say the entire catalogue without Samba?

I think that I need to include:

Tangled Up in Blue
It's all over now, Baby Blue
Blues for Allah
Devil in the Blue Dress
Into the Blue
US Blues

Of course, most importantly-
Stella Blue!

Wait... was that not the purpose here?

Honestly there is no way I can do without Jer belting the "song the Delia sung" parts 3 or 4 times at the end of Stagger Lee. When done right always brings a smile to my face.

nothin left to do but smile smile smile......

bit of a non-sequitur i know but i think the Europe 72 version is THE SONG to play for non deadheads... not touch, not eyes, not sugar mag or UJB.... i feel like i could play that song for anyone that listens to music and they will at least get a glimmer of what we're IN TO. it ain't psychedelic but it pretty much shows off EVERYTHING ELSE the dead had to offer

Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him.
Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head.

Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone.

Nine mile skid on a ten mile ride, hot as a pistol but cool inside.
Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile,
Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!

Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone.

Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.
Lost one round but the price wasn't anything,
A knife in the back and more of the same.

Same old, rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb,
You know better but I know him.
Like I told you, what I said,
Steal your face right off your head.

Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone.

Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back.

Agreed.

For me He's Gone just somehow captured what it was about.

Nothin' left to do...

Hope you have a good one, "He Lives".
